Faculty Recommendation Letter Workshop
Looking to strengthen your support for your students who apply to competitive opportunities and programs? Join us and hear two faculty colleagues, Dr. Paola López-Duarte (Biological Sciences) and Dr. Beth Whitaker (Political Science), as they discuss best practices and show examples of effective recommendation letter-writing. Paper Chase: Call for Student Applications
The third annual Paper Chase event will be hosted by the Office of Undergraduate Research from May 17-19, 2023. This professional development exercise is an opportunity for undergraduate and graduate students to engage in academic research writing in a collaborative group approach called Paper Chase. Teams of six students will work with a faculty member to develop a publishable manuscript in three working days, guided by a facilitator. As active participants in the writing process, students will receive authorship credit and a stipend for completing the training modules and paper chase writing exercise. This is an excellent short-term opportunity to get involved in academic research. Students who are interested in developing their understanding of academic research and publishing are encouraged to apply by the February 19 deadline. Teaching with Poll Everywhere
This workshop will introduce faculty/staff to Poll Everywhere, and how to use the student response software in classroom and other learning spaces. During the workshop participants will explore how to get registered and create polling content within Poll Everywhere. We will guide you on downloading your class roster from Canvas into Poll Everywhere and how to export grades from the polling responses into Canvas.

New Canvas Quizzing
This workshop will teach you the basics of creating quizzes in Canvas for assessments using the New Canvas Quizzing Tool. We will also show you how to migrate classic quizzes to new quizzes. We recommend it for anyone new to quizzing in Canvas or creating new quizzes from scratch.

Using Peer Review to Actively Engage Students in the Feedback Process
Peer review has the potential to strengthen students’ reading, listening, writing and speaking skills while deepening content knowledge. However, students often need structure and direction from you to learn how to provide, receive, and act on peer feedback. This webinar will review strategies that will help students and you achieve the benefits of peer review and reduce common problems. Faculty will leave the webinar being able to 1) identify strategies for effective peer review, 2) develop peer review activities, and 3) facilitate peer review. This workshop is facilitated by Dr. Heather Bastian, Director of Communication Across the Curriculum.

Supporting International Student Success
The purpose of this workshop is to provide information in order to help faculty better understand the international student perspective and experience. With increased understanding, faculty can be better advocates for their students, therefore supporting their success both in and out of the classroom. The workshop will explore the unique perspectives, expectations, and roles of the professor-international student relationship. Topics such as class participation, verbal/non-verbal communication, anxiety triggers, and academic integrity will be covered. This workshop is delivered by Denise Medeiros, Associate Director of the International Student Scholar Office, within the Office of International Programs.
