Beginning this semester (Fall 2023), the Graduate School is debuting a new, college-focused organizational structure that will provide students, faculty and staff a single point of contact for questions and support for all graduate academic services.

CONNECT Best Practices training modules are located on Canvas under published courses. Advisors and faculty can request a one-on-one or team follow-up training session centered around your departmental initiatives. The Foundational Concepts of Teaching and Learning series supports our commitment to excellence in teaching by promoting one foundational concept a year. This year’s concept is student learning outcomes. Visit the series website to learn about key resources available for faculty and staff to support teaching. This important series is a collaboration between the Center for Teaching and Learning, Communication across the Curriculum, J. Murrey Atkins Library, and the Office of Assessment and Accreditation.

Faculty are invited to register for the New Faculty Writing Community Kickoff Workshop. The workshop, which is a collaboration between the ADVANCE Faculty Affairs and Diversity Office and the Writing Resources Center, will be facilitated by Dr. Katie Garahan, Director of the Writing Resources Center at UNC Charlotte. The goal of the workshop is to help new faculty get excited about beginning their writing journey at Charlotte and to provide tips about how to establish a sustainable writing practice. For the remainder of the fall semester, the ADVANCE FADO Office will host a writing community for new faculty on Friday mornings, where new faculty can come to “SHUT UP and WRITE in a supportive environment – coffee/tea and snacks will be provided.

Innovate Your Teaching: Faculty Workshop Series
The Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL) welcomes faculty back to campus this Fall with 25 years of commitment to teaching excellence and student success at UNC Charlotte. Engage in faculty development workshops from August 21-25 on high-impact and innovative teaching strategies to support student success and assist new faculty with onboarding and preparing for the first few weeks of class. NEW Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) Grants Program
The SoTL Call for Grant Proposals is open! This year, the SoTL Grants Program offers faculty funding for research on teaching and learning focused on High Impact Practices and Curricular Innovation, and Educational Technology Innovation. Proposals are due by 11:59 p.m. on October 1. Read below to learn how you can receive targeted support for getting your SoTL research funded!

SoTL Grant Proposal Writing Course
Enroll in this week-long course to receive targeted guidance for developing a fundable SoTL research proposal! This hybrid course, facilitated by Faculty Fellow, Dr. Kim Buch, offers a scaffolded experience for designing and proposing a fundable SoTL research project that fits the goals and requirements of the new SoTL RFP. Optional writing feedback and consultations are offered throughout.

The Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program offers teaching and research awards to U.S. citizens in more than 135 countries. College and university faculty and administrators can join the more than 400,000 Fulbrighters, including a growing list of UNC Charlotte Fulbright scholars, who have come away with enhanced skills, new connections, and greater mutual understanding. The application deadline is September 15. Interested parties are encouraged to learn more about these opportunities via the Catalog of Awards or consulting with Joel Gallegos, associate provost for international programs and UNC Charlotte’s Fulbright scholar liaison.
