Please be mindful that some of your students may request accommodation for religious holidays. As part of the University’s Religious Accommodation for Students policy 409, faculty are asked to make reasonable accommodations for religious observances, including fasting. This includes the opportunity to make up a test or other work missed due to an excused absence for a religious observance.

The deadline to apply for UNC Charlotte Urban Institute’s sixth cohort of faculty fellows is this Friday, September 27. All Charlotte faculty are invited to apply. Gambrell Faculty Fellows research issues related to economic mobility and quality of life in the Charlotte region, with support from The Gambrell Foundation. This year, the Gambrell Faculty Fellows program will fund up to six projects with grants up to $18,000 each. Fellows will join a growing group of researchers contributing to our community’s ongoing search for solutions that could foster greater upward economic mobility and an improved quality of life for residents in our region. Previous cohorts of Gambrell Faculty Fellows include faculty from seven colleges and 22 academic disciplines. More information.

The Community Innovation Incubator is urbanCORE’s multi-year grant-funded community engagement project that pairs UNC Charlotte faculty research teams with a corridor of opportunity’s residents and community organizations. All are invited to this talk by sociologist Kendra Jason and social worker Roger Suclupe of the Sugar Creek/I-85 Corridor faculty research team. Jason and Suclupe will share how they co-designed a wellness incubator in collaboration with Hidden Valley community members and partners. Through it’s CORE Series, urbanCORE aims to support and celebrate community-engaged research and teaching initiatives.

The Dean of Students Office is conducting a search for the Fall/December 2024 Student Bell Ringers. This role is a prestigious honor for the selected individuals. The Bell Ringer performs the longstanding tradition of ringing the UNC Charlotte “victory bell”, which was gifted to Ms. Bonnie Cone in 1961 when Charlotte College moved from its old site at Central High School to the current UNC Charlotte location. The qualifications of the Bell Ringer encompasses an outstanding student leader who has demonstrated exemplary 49er spirit within organizations, volunteerism, and/or service to others. One Bell Ringer will be selected for each Commencement ceremony. Encourage your students to apply to be a Bell Ringer.

One week left to submit Scholarship of Teaching and Learning Grant Proposals. Proposals are due October 1. 

The SoTL Grants program aims to fund faculty projects that systematically examine and reflect upon the teaching and learning practices in their discipline using appropriate research methods. Grants may be awarded to individual faculty members or faculty groups who propose projects that will use funds to evaluate a teaching and learning intervention. 

Projects must: 

  • Have measurable outcomes
  • Benefit the UNC Charlotte Teaching and Learning Community
  • Align with the University’s mission and Strategic Plan through one or more of the RFP strands below.

  2. Educational Technology Innovation
  3. Pedagogies using AI

Submit your proposal by October 1 to receive funds by Winter Break.
