Student Assistance and Support Services (SASS) can notify instructors on a student’s behalf when personal reasons prevent the student from properly notifying each instructor because of circumstances beyond the student’s control. This notification occurs through an absence verification letter sent to instructors directly from SASS.Students and instructors are encouraged to work together regarding class absences. Instructors can review and make decisions regarding absences. Absence verification letters from SASS are not required. SASS can provide notification to faculty of emergency situations when a student is unable to do so and when the office has been made aware of such emergencies. It is important to note that the final decision for approval of absences, missed work, or make-up work is ultimately determined by the instructor. Keep in mind that SASS is a resource to support students by confirming the accuracy of an absence. SASS does not provide verification of absences for car trouble, weather issues, personal activities such as work, weddings, vacations, or University-sponsored events. Absences related to such activities should be discussed directly with the faculty member. For more information and student responsibilities to account for such an absence, review the UNC Charlotte Academic Policy: Course Attendance and Participation.

The Office of International Programs (OIP) invites students to our annual International Career Panel on Thursday, February 13, from 12-1pm in the Barnhardt Student Activity Center Salons. In partnership with the University Career Center and the World Affairs Council of Charlotte, this event supports students entering the job market who are interested in pursuing a career in global efforts. Attendees will have the opportunity to learn from panelists with careers in international education, international business, non-profit and more. Please share with interested students. Please visit OIP’s website for more information.

Read and Publish Deals without APCs
Atkins Library works hard to support researchers on campus. As part of this work, we have negotiated several Read and Publish Deals with high-level research publishers. The deals allow UNC Charlotte authors to publish their articles Open Access without paying expensive Article Processing Charges (APCs). Some deals cover Article Processing Charges for all journals, while others offer some coverage. See details.

eBooks and ILL Pilot Project
Atkins Library pilots a project this semester to experiment with fulfilling requests for whole e-books via interlibrary loan (ILL) in pdf format for graduate students, faculty and staff. Learn more.
