In celebration of International Women’s Day, the Office of International Programs invites you to nominate a deserving member of our UNC Charlotte community. We are seeking to recognize individuals who have made a positive impact on the world through their research, teaching, service, or personal endeavors. We encourage you to nominate a colleague, student, faculty member, or staff member who has made a significant contribution to global efforts. This is an opportunity to celebrate the unique accomplishments of people from all backgrounds and to inspire future generations of global leaders. Self-nominations are welcome and encouraged. Nominations close on February 25. We also invite you to join us in the celebration on March 11 from 3:30 – 5:00 pm in the Cone Center Lucas Room. RSVP by March 7. Behind the Screens Series

Join the Critical Media Literacy Collaborative, Niner Times, and Atkins Library for a series of engaging panel discussions and workshops to explore social media ownership and digital privacy. Part One: Who Controls What You See? A Panel on Media Ownership and Censorship. This panel discussion explores the far-reaching effects of corporate media ownership on the information we consume. Using case studies like the U.S. TikTok ban and recent Meta fact-checking and content inclusion changes, the panelists will examine issues of censorship, mis/disinformation, and media literacy in today’s evolving information landscape. The panel will include Assistant Professor in Philosophy and Data Science Damien P. Williams, Assistant Professor in Writing, Rhetoric & Digital Studies Wilfredo Flores, and Niner Times Multimedia Managing Editor Sunnya Hadavi. This event is part one of the series Behind the Screens: Exploring Social Media Ownership and Digital Privacy. Open to all students, faculty, and staff.

Digital Humanities @ Charlotte Meetup

Join us for a campus meetup of digital humanities (DH) practitioners, enthusiasts and those interested in learning more about DH and connecting with others. This will be an opportunity to share your DH research and/or projects, and make connections for current and future collaborations. We would also like to work together to build a collective idea of what DH looks like on our campus. Pastries and coffee/tea will be provided.

The call for nominations is now open for faculty nominees for the 2026 O. Max Gardner Award. This award is given annually by the UNC Board of Governors to “that member of the faculty of the University of North Carolina who, during the current scholastic year, has made the greatest contribution to the welfare of the human race.” Nominees can be of any rank, “including instructors, engaged in teaching in any unit, institution or branch of service” in the University system. Past UNC Charlotte recipients of the award include Pinku Mukherjee, Department of Biological Sciences, and Diane M. Browder, Department of Special Education.  More details about previous campus nominees can be found on the Office of Academic Affairs website. Please forward the names of nominees to Jen Knight by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, March 7. Include in your nomination the individual’s name, rank, and department/unit. Also, please provide a brief description of this individual’s specific contribution(s) or achievement(s) and why they would make a good nominee. If your nominee is selected to be put forward as our campus nominee for the award, you will be asked to collaborate on a letter of recommendation.

Do you have a plan to launch a new research project or collaboration soon? Have you considered engaging undergraduates on a research, scholarly, or creative project?  Have you thought about how an undergraduate student can help your scholarly research program?  Have you had students asking you questions that would be interesting to further investigate?  Are you looking to test a new question or try something interdisciplinary?  Do you have a need for a student, but not the means? Yes?  Yes. or Yes! The Office of Undergraduate Research can help! The OUR Scholars program can help you find and employ students in collaborative learning through undergraduate research, scholarly and creative activities.  The fall semester program can last up to 16 weeks long and students can log up to 160 hours working on a research project!  New to mentoring undergraduate students?  Check out the mentor expectations. We are pleased to announce that the Office of Undergraduate Research is now accepting submissions for mentor project descriptions for the 2025 OUR Fall Research Program. Learn more. OUR will help support the scholars by also organizing professional development workshops for the students as well as co-hosting the Honors Research Symposium. If you have questions about the expectations, the application, the process, or how to attract students, feel free to reach out to OUR’s Director or the Associate Director. If you are ready to prepare a proposal, then view our template and visit the competitions portal to apply.  The deadline for submission is March 13. Don’t forget that this is only step one.  Please help us broaden the applicant pool as much as possible and ensure that the students you’re looking for are in the applicant pool.  Encourage your students to apply for the program starting March 17.

The Honors College is now accepting applications to the Honors Faculty. Now through March 15, nominate your faculty to be part of the Honors Faculty (faculty may also self-nominate). Visit the Honors College website for more information and to access the application.
