Continuing Our Momentum as an R1 Research University

As a follow-up to the message you received from Chancellor Gaber in today’s Niner Insider, we want to take a moment to acknowledge and thank you for your role in this historic achievement. UNC Charlotte’s designation as an R1 research university is a direct result of your dedication, expertise, and contributions across all colleges.

Our research-active faculty continue to push boundaries through groundbreaking discoveries, innovative scholarship, and high-impact collaborations. At the same time, our non-tenure track faculty play a critical role in student success, delivering high-quality instruction that strengthens the academic foundation students need to engage in research and advanced study. Together, these efforts position UNC Charlotte as a leader in innovation and knowledge creation.

As we embrace the opportunities that come with R1 status, we also recognize the challenges of an evolving research environment.
