Academic Affairs Enrollment Update-July 6
Dear Colleagues,
Thank you for your continued support of our enrollment efforts. We have about seven weeks until the start of the Fall 2023 semester. These reports reflect new enrollment (tab 1) and total enrollment (tab 2) by department compared to the equivalent date last year. Here are the latest updates:
Undergraduate Enrollment
New undergraduate enrollment is running behind last year due to the changes in the orientation and advising timeline. Last year, students could register themselves for classes once their New Student Orientation Modules were complete. This year, they have to complete the modules and then meet with an Academic Advisor before they can register for classes.
- More than 6,100 new first-year and transfer students have reserved a New Student Orientation session, a requirement to gain access to virtual models and advising. Approximately 89% have completed their required modules.
- Of the students who have completed their modules, approximately 66.5% have been able to complete an advising appointment. Advising appointments are being managed centrally by the colleges and advising staff, so questions about how many new students have scheduled upcoming appointments should be directed to advising contacts.
- Undergraduate Admissions continues to prioritize transfer decisions as applications become complete. The application for transfer admission will remain open through July 15.
Continuing undergraduate enrollment is strong with signs of increased retention of first, second and third year students. Strong retention is critical to our overall enrollment efforts, and more importantly, it’s a signal that our students are successful. Please reach out to eligible students who have not registered for the fall and encourage them to seek assistance if needed. There is still time to register for fall
Graduate Enrollment
Graduate enrollment for the fall semester continues to trend ahead of last year with a total net increase of 360 students (+406 new and -46 continuing) for a total of 5,510 students. Graduate program directors and faculty can help further increase enrollment by communicating directly with the 2,708 students (1,103 new and 1,605 continuing) who have not registered for classes to encourage them to begin or continue their studies at Charlotte. Graduate Admissions continues to reach out to these students but the message is much more influential when it comes from faculty.
