The second screening is the major review to determine how well the candidates meet the job qualifications and criteria for the position. It is conducted after the announced date for screening to begin or for applications to be received (if stated). Search and screening committees should develop checklists to assist members of the committee in their review of the materials for each applicant. For an example of what the checklist should entail, please see our website and select the “Checklist of Observable / Quantifiable Characteristics” document. The screening criteria presented in the checklist may be more detailed than the advertised expectations and qualifications but they cannot be contradictory to them. These applicants should have their statuses changed to “Further Consideration.” This status can be interpreted that the applicant meets the job qualifications and criteria for the position and makes the “short list” of qualified applicants.
