S. Michael Putman, Associate Provost for Academic Programs and Space

Dr. S. Michael Putman is currently serving as the Associate Provost for Academic Programs and Space. Previously, Dr. Putman held positions as Chair of the Department of Reading and Elementary Education and as interim associate dean for undergraduate and graduate education in the Cato College of Education. While serving in these roles, he led the development of the Graduate Certificate in Instructional Coaching, Teacher Assistant to Teacher programs and the Charlotte Teachers Early College program — a partnership with Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools that offers high school students the chance to earn college credits in education. Dr. Putman’s research focuses on the development of teacher self-efficacy and intercultural competencies through field experiences, including those in international contexts, and the impact of affective variables within online inquiry processes. In 2022-2023, he served as a Fulbright Scholar and conducted research at the University of Jyväskylä (Finland), Stellenbosch University (South Africa) and Ludwigsburg University of Education (Germany).
