Legal Training: The Evolving Landscape of Discrimination Law and University Policy

Join the presenters for an overview of recent developments to discrimination and harassment laws as well as recent revisions to the University’s anti-discrimination policy. The presenters will explore how these changes apply in the employment and student contexts and also discuss various scenarios to help bring these changes into perspective. Presented by André Lindsay, Senior Associate General Counsel, and Sarah Edwards, Interim Deputy General Counsel.

Dowd Professor of Capitalism Studies (Term Appointment)

The Office of Interdisciplinary Studies is conducting a search for the Dowd Professor of Capitalism Studies (term appointment) as detailed in the position announcement. The successful candidate will be a tenured faculty member at UNC Charlotte; have demonstrated interest in and/or experience with Capitalism Studies; have a research agenda related to Capitalism Studies, broadly defined; and have interest in grant writing and/or fundraising to advance the Capitalism Studies program. For full consideration, applications must be received by May 5, 2023.

Introducing the Library Mobile App
Atkins Library makes it easier than ever to access library resources with the new Library Mobile App. In the app, users can quickly search for books and articles, access their library accounts, view library hours and floor maps, get research assistance, and learn more about upcoming events. The app also includes a variety of other features such as information on Special Collections and University Archives and the Hight Architecture Library as well as links to the library’s social media accounts. To begin using the app, search for Ex Libris Library Mobile in your device’s app store. Once you download the app, search for and choose ‘UNC Charlotte’ as your library, choose NinerNet, and log in with your university credentials. Download the app and let us know what you think.

Atkins Book Club Workshop
The Atkins Book Club has selected Teaching for Justice and Belonging: A Journey for Educators & Parents as its spring book club selection. Authors Tehia Starker Glass, Ph.D., and Lucretia Carter Berry, Ph.D., will discuss their book and provide an interactive workshop on how to put these learning concepts into practice. 25th Annual International Education Celebration

Since 1995, the Office of International Programs has coordinated an annual awards celebration to recognize the accomplishments of a UNC Charlotte faculty member who has contributed to international engagement and to mark the international education contributions and learning experiences of faculty and students. The 26th annual International Education Celebration took place on April 13, 2023. Adriana Medina, Ph.D., Associate Professor of Reading Education in the Cato College of Education, was recognized as the faculty award recipient for her outstanding contributions to the enhancement of the international education experience at UNC Charlotte. Medina’s accomplishments are many, and in addition to her scholarship and research in areas such as literacy, language arts, reading comprehension, and multicultural and global education, she has also led education abroad programs both in the traditional sense and through globally networked virtual learning with partners in multiple countries. Medina also serves on the Office of International Programs’ University Council, and is president of the Mu Chapter Phi Beta Delta international honor society board. Eniolaoluwa Ogunyemi, an international student from Nigeria who will receive her bachelor degrees in Psychology and Biology in May, was the student international education award recipient. Ogunyemi has participated in a number of co-curricular activities and is a member of Tau Sigma National Honor Society for transfer students. The event also recognized education abroad faculty leaders and student scholarship recipients as well as the winners of the Marian Beane Crossing Borders student writing competition.
