Changes to 49er ID Requirement
Beginning this fall, students will no longer be required to have a physical 49er Card. Incoming students are able to add their 49er ID credentials to their mobile device to access buildings and services throughout campus. Faculty who rely on a physical ID card for attendance tracking or verification of identity for testing purposes should be aware that students may present their 49er ID on their phone. If you have questions or concerns about 49er Mobile ID, please email the 49er Card Office.
Pizza Party and On-Campus
The University Career Center will host the Plaza Party on August 25, 11:00-2:00, at the North Main Quad by the fountain. The outdoor event is filled with games, music, photo booth, prizes, and food. This is a free event that kicks off the new academic year. Thank you to employer partner, Equitable, for sponsoring the event. ATG Entertainment will deejay the event and have a photobooth. Students can play games including the Frog Launcher, milk can toss, and life size Hungry Hippo, plus many more. In between games, students can grab a snow cone, funnel cake, and popcorn, or hang out in the quad with great employers. The Career Center emphasizes fun and connection through the Plaza Party. In the midst of the event’s fun and games, students can connect with employers and campus partners in an informal way. There will be sixteen employers – Equitable, ATG Entertainment, Flexcare Medical Staffing, Charter Spectrum, Novant Health, Fastenal Company, LPL Financial, Ally, Volvo Group, Honeywell, U.S. Bank, Truist, Compass Group, GardHouse, Sherwin Williams, and Spot Freight – on hand to speak with students about job opportunities and provide recruiting tips. Students can also speak with these amazing departments: University Center for Academic Excellence, Center for Graduate Life, Graduate Admissions, Office of Undergraduate Research, and Office of Leadership & Community Engagement. The live On-Campus Job Fair will be going on at the same time. Students can stop by and speak to many university departments and offices looking to hire students. The campus employers will be located along the sidewalk in front of Atkins Library. The rain location for both events is in the SAC Food Court and Salons.
Niner Career Challenge
The University Career Center will host the Niner Career Challenge which provides a chance for students to win free tuition and fees for Spring 2023 as well as other monthly prizes. The Career Centers thanks employer partners Flexcare Medical Staffing, Novant Health, and Tata Consulting Services for sponsoring the event and providing the grand prizes and monthly giveaways. This year the Career Center will award three grand prizes of tuition and fees thanks to our employer sponsors. The challenge opens on August 29 and closes November 30. Students must register to participate in the event. All details and activities are available at the Niner Career Challenge webpage. Participants must be a UNC Charlotte undergraduate or graduate/PhD student currently enrolled and registered for classes for Fall 2022.

Discover how to partner with your subject-area librarian to integrate library resources in your courses, gain access to library resources including videos and tutorials, be introduced to the University’s institutional repository (Niner Commons), and more! This workshop is led by Ryan Haris, Head of Research & Instructional Services and Catherine Tingelstad, instruction & Curriculum Engagement Coordinator from Atkin Library.

Teaching with Poll Everywhere
This workshop will introduce faculty/staff to Poll Everywhere, and how to use the student response software in classroom and other learning spaces. During the workshop participants will explore how to get registered and create polling content within Poll Everywhere. We will guide you on downloading your class roster from Canvas into Poll Everywhere and how to export grades from the polling responses into Canvas.

Hot Off the Press: Legislative and Supreme Court Updates
Join the presenters as they review new legislation as well as recent and pending U.S. Supreme Court cases with implications for university operations and the campus community. Topics to be covered include the state budget, religious expression, and much more. Presented by Jesh Humphrey, Vice Chancellor for Institutional Integrity and General Counsel, and Anna Helms, Assistant Director of Constituent Relations.

Early Alert Deadline / CONNECT Startup Page and Best Practice Sessions
Early Alerts are due for all 1XXX/2XXX level courses by 12:00 p.m. on Friday, September 16. Are you new to CONNECT? Request access to our CONNECT startup page. CONNECT Best Practice sessions will be offered in-person or virtually for Fall 2022. Advisors and faculty, request a one-on-one or team session surrounding Best Practices topics of your choice. Best Practice sessions can be held during department meetings and in collaboration with your Advising Systems Liaison. New Gambrell Faculty Fellows Cohort to Focus on Different Aspects of Equity
As the Charlotte region reckons with both the immediate aftermath of COVID-19 and longstanding challenges such as segregation and educational inequities, the Gambrell Faculty Fellows program has named a new cohort of scholars to help illuminate the way to a more equitable community. The fourth cohort of Fellows will investigate a wide range of challenges, from difficulties facing students with disabilities at UNC Charlotte to how Black women business owners have coped with the stresses of the pandemic. Four projects have been selected for funding. The eight scholars working on these projects, representing five colleges or departments, will join almost 30 previous fellows in research that promotes greater socioeconomic mobility in the Charlotte region.

urbanCORE to Co-Produce International Journal Examining Community Engaged Scholarship
UNC Charlotte’s urbanCORE will co-produce Gateways: International Journal of Community Research and Engagement, in partnership with the University of Technology Sydney, a public research university in Australia. Gateways is an award-winning journal that “responds to an emerging global movement of collaborative, critical and change-oriented community-university research initiatives.” As UNC Charlotte’s hub for engaged scholarship that connects the university to the community, urbanCORE is an ideal publishing partner for Gateways. UNC Charlotte Staff Member and Engineer Appointed to National Association
Eric Huhn, Lee College of Engineering Facility and Laboratory Safety Engineer and Niner alumnus, has officially been appointed as Special Representation Liaison to Chemical Insights on behalf of the Campus Safety Health and Environment Management Association (CSHEMA). By serving in this role, Huhn helps raise awareness of the Lee College of Engineering among his national peers as he establishes methods to support Chemical Insights tools, trainings and research publications. Thank you to Eric Huhn for volunteering your time and expertise to our broader mission of higher education.
