Haines Appointed Associate Provost of School of Professional Studies

Dear colleagues:

As Chancellor Gaber and I announced in a September 30 message, an associate provost position has been created to lead the new School of Professional Studies. This is part of a number of changes within the Division of Academic Affairs to enhance several aspects of our organizational structure to continue progress in support of the University’s mission.

I am pleased to announce that Asher Haines has been named UNC Charlotte’s associate provost of the School of Professional Studies. In this inaugural role for the University, he will direct the School and lead the University’s strategies related to supporting adult learners, partnering with companies and organizations to develop their employees through education and training, and collaborating with the University’s academic colleges to develop and deliver programs for adult learners while also supporting overall excellence in teaching and learning for the University.

Asher joined UNC Charlotte in May 2016 as director of Continuing Education and, since June 2020, has served as interim executive director of the Teaching and Learning Connection.

Prior to UNC Charlotte, he was campus president of the Art Institute of Charlotte, associate vice chancellor for Keiser University, and senior territory vice president for University of Phoenix. He earned a Master of Music from the Peabody Institute of The Johns Hopkins University and a Bachelor of Music from University of Maryland.

Asher has a strong track record of leading teams to support student success and enrollment growth. I am confident that he will amplify UNC Charlotte’s ability to be an economic engine for the Charlotte region by powering a highly skilled workforce and uplifting the community through educational opportunities for learners of all ages.

Sincerely,

Joan F. Lorden
Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs
