Fall Flu Vaccine and COVID-19 Booster Clinics
Need your COVID-19 bivalent booster or flu shot? The Student Health Center is offering no-cost campus clinics to students, faculty and staff. For flu vaccine clinics, there are no out-of-pocket costs with most major insurance carriers; bring your medical insurance card and prescription insurance card (if applicable). For COVID-19 booster clinics, appointments are required; bring your University ID and COVID-19 vaccine card. For questions, contact the Student Health Center at 704-687-7400 to connect with Immunizations or the Pharmacy. Register for an appointment.

October Mental Health Focus
Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) offers a variety of events to help build a community of care at UNC Charlotte that emphasizes the need to destigmatize mental health issues and provides education on help-seeking strategies. We encourage you to advocate for mental health by sharing and participating in the following:
Mental Health First Aid
MHFA is an national public education program that introduces participants to risk factors and warning signs of mental illnesses and substance use, builds understanding of their impact, and provides an overview of common supports. The certificate includes two hours of pre-work and six hours of instructor-led training.

Let’s Talk (for students only)
You may know students who would benefit from “Let’s Talk,” a brief, drop-in, and confidential problem-solving consultation for students with a CAPS team member. Visits are first come, first served. No appointment is necessary and the wait time is usually brief. This is not therapy and it is not designed for students who need urgent help.

October 17 Deadline for Master’s Thesis Nominations
Faculty may nominate students for the Outstanding Master’s Thesis Award through October 17. The Award is a part of the Graduate School’s focus on enhancing research skills. New this year is a Non-traditional Thesis/Project category that refers to theses that do not conform to the traditional model, such as those produced in MFA programs both for literature and the performing arts. Former CIA Analyst to Address China’s Digital Currency
The Office of International Programs invites you to attend an International Speaker Series event featuring YaYa Fanusie, Adjunct Senior Fellow at the Center for a New American Security. Fanusie will speak on China’s Digital Yuan: Is Data the New Digital Currency? The International Speaker Series is a long-standing initiative that offers the campus community an opportunity to hear from internationally renowned experts in various fields. The topics that speakers address range from economics, to globalization, to foreign policy. The event is free and open to the campus community. More information.

Legal Affairs Training: Workplace Privacy
Is Anything I Say, Send, or Save at Work Private?!
Have you ever wondered whether labeling an email “Confidential” really matters or how private your conversations with an attorney really are? This session will explore what expectation of privacy faculty and staff should have in their email communications, electronic files, and office space at the university as well as the factors that govern university legal counsel’s confidentiality obligations.

Special Venue Announced for Personally Speaking
The College of Liberal Arts & Sciences, together with The Dubois Center at UNC Charlotte Center City and J. Murrey Atkins Library, presents its next Personally Speaking series event at The Union at Station West in the FreeMoreWest neighborhood. Crystal Nicole Eddins, Ph.D. will present Rituals, Runaways, and the Haitian Revolution: Collective Action in the African Diaspora, which explores how enslaved people’s resistance leading up to the Haitian Revolution offers interesting lessons about collective action.

UNC Charlotte GIS Day
Graduate and undergraduate students are encouraged to attend UNC Charlotte GIS Day on Wednesday, November 16. The event is designed to teach students about geography and Geographic Information Science and to share the real world applications that are improving society. There is a full schedule of activities planned. Also, remind students to check out the newly installed Department of Geography and Earth Sciences globe in the courtyard outside of McEniry.
Spring Diversity Scholars Forum to Showcase DEIJ Research
The Graduate School is seeking participants in a spring Diversity Scholars Forum that will feature graduate student research related to diversity, equity, inclusion and justice (DEIJ). The Forum will provide a showcase for research on campus and in the greater Charlotte community. More information.
Ventureprise Launch Applications Open
Join 400+ UNC Charlotte faculty and students that have already completed the Ventureprise Launch program. Apply to participate in the Fall 2022 Ventureprise Launch Cohort. The program provides UNC Charlotte faculty, staff and students with commercialization training and follow-up funding opportunities. The program is designed for participants to work at their own pace with interview and funding goals. This virtual cohort has been designed with a tiered approach, launching with an Intro Workshop in November. The goal of the program is to identify potential commercial uses for technology and research. The next stage is a six-month $50,000 NSF I-Corps Teams grant. Applications are currently open and are reviewed as they are submitted, closing October 31st. More information and the application form can be found on the Ventureprise faculty website. A discussion with Josh Burford, Co-Founder & Director of Outreach & Lead Archivist for the Invisible Histories Project, an organization that locates, preserves, researches, and creates for local communities an accessible collection of the rich and diverse history of LGBTQ life in the US South. This event is a collaboration between Atkins Library, LGBTQ+ Staff and Faculty Caucus, and the Department of Philosophy.

Center for Teaching and Learning Workshops
New Canvas Quizzing
This workshop will teach you the basics of creating quizzes in Canvas for assessments using the New Canvas Quizzing Tool. We will also show you how to migrate classic quizzes to new quizzes. We recommend it for anyone new to quizzing in Canvas or creating new quizzes from scratch.

Viewpoint Diversity and Civil Discourse in the Classroom
College is designed to teach students how to think – not what to think. An inclusive classroom must provide opportunities for students to form and express diverse viewpoints while respecting differing viewpoints of others. This workshop will provide techniques and resources to help faculty engage students in safe and respectful discussions around diverse viewpoints and perspectives. This workshop counts towards the Essentials of Teaching and Learning Certificate.

Supporting International Student Success
The purpose of this workshop is to provide information in order to help faculty better understand the international student perspective and experience. With increased understanding, faculty can be better advocates for their students, therefore supporting their success both in and out of the classroom. The workshop will explore the unique perspectives, expectations, and roles of the professor-international student relationship. Topics such as class participation, verbal/non-verbal communication, anxiety triggers, and academic integrity will be covered.

Andrea Pitts, Ph.D., Associate Professor of Philosophy, will participate on a panel led by Dr. Rahul Vanjani, an assistant professor of medicine and Clinical Educator at Rhode Island Hospital Center for Primary Care. The event, which is being held in Rhode Island by the Brown University Center for the Study of Race and Ethnicity in America, will be livestreamed.
