July 20

Privacy questions arise daily on campus. Knowing when sensitive information can be shared—and when it must remain confidential—is essential for maintaining legal compliance and building institutional trust.

This practical session explores the key privacy frameworks that university supervisors, faculty, and staff navigate most. We will break down:

  • Student Privacy: Demystifying FERPA guidelines.
  • Health Information: Navigating HIPAA in a university setting.
  • Employee Protections: Understanding confidentiality boundaries related to medical leave under the FMLA, ADA, and more.

Through scenarios and common workplace examples, the presenters will discuss what you need to know about collecting, accessing, using, and disclosing sensitive information.  Attendees will gain practical guidance to help them make informed decisions about handling sensitive student and employee information, maintaining appropriate confidentiality, and avoiding common privacy pitfalls.

Presenters: André Lindsay, Senior Associate General Counsel and Isabel Alele, Associate General Counsel

When: Wednesday, July 29, 2026, from 11:30 am -12:30 pm

Where: via Zoom (link will be provided to registrants)

We are asking that individuals RSVP using this form if they plan to attend.  Registrants will receive the Zoom link prior to the presentation.

Take part in one of our favorite traditions and help Housing and Residence Life welcome the newest members of Niner Nation to campus August 12-15. Move-In Crew welcomes new Niners and helps families get belongings from drop-off areas to rooms. We are looking for enthusiastic faculty and staff who want to help us create the most welcoming environment possible for these incoming families. Learn more on the Housing and Residence Life website. Let’s make this the best move-in yet!
