Bonnie E. Cone Professorship in Civic Engagement

The Bonnie E. Cone Professorship in Civic Engagement was established in 2017 and is awarded annually to a tenured member of the faculty whose teaching and/or research embody the University’s commitment to civic involvement, and whose work profoundly and systematically affects the relationship between UNC Charlotte and the larger community in a positive and meaningful way.

Bonnie E. Cone Early-Career Professorship in Teaching

The Bonnie E. Cone Early-Career Professorship in Teaching was established in 2006 and is awarded annually to a member of the faculty who has been awarded tenure within the last three years. The appointment is for a three-year term, and the announcement is made to the campus community at the annual Provost’s Awards Reception.

Provost’s Award for Excellence in Student Success

The Provost’s Award for Excellence in Student Success is granted annually to an individual, advising center, academic department, program, or unit in recognition of maintaining an outstanding commitment to student success. The award is intended to recognize sustained efforts that assist students to achieve their educational and lifelong learning goals. The monetary award can be used at the discretion of the recipient for any purpose authorized for state appropriations. A permanent plaque is given each year to the recipient in recognition of the award.

A reminder of University Policies 402 and 605.3 regarding the retention of records:

University Policy: 402, Student Education Records (FERPA)

Federal law protects the confidentiality of records maintained by the University and relating directly to a student and also provides guidance for the proper handling of records by UNC Charlotte as a public institution. University Policy 402 defines what is considered a student education record and specifies when and how such records may be disclosed. Additionally, the policy addresses persons permitted access to such records and their responsibility for maintaining confidentiality in handling and accessing them. Please take an opportunity to review University Policy: 402, Student Education Records (FERPA).

University Policy 605.3: Retention, Disposition, and Security of University Records 

Chapters 121 and 132 of the General Statutes of North Carolina govern the retention, disposition, and security of University records, including student education records. The UNC System Office provides minimum retention standards for the handling of student records in the UNC Records Retention and Disposition Schedule. Please take time to ensure the proper storing, handling, retention, and disposition of student education records. Please discuss this policy and schedule with all employees approved for access to handle these records. Charlotte Global is pleased to welcome nominations (self and by others) for the 2026 Faculty International Education Award, the 2026 Staff International Education Award and the 2026 Student International Education Award.

The Faculty International Education Award recognizes a faculty member for his/her outstanding contributions to the enhancement of the international education experience at UNC Charlotte. The Staff International Education Award recognizes non-faculty university employees who support internationalization efforts at UNC Charlotte. The Student International Education Award recognizes outstanding contributions and involvement in international programs and studies at UNC Charlotte.

Nominations may come from any member of the University community for any of the awards. The Deadline for Faculty, Staff and Student International Education Awards nominations is September 21.

Award recipients will be recognized at the International Education Celebration on Monday, November 16, 2026.
