The deadline is approaching for the 2026-27 Gambrell Faculty Fellowship! Applications are due by 5 p.m. Friday, October 9, 2026.

With generous support from The Gambrell Foundation, the Charlotte Urban Institute will provide grants of up to $25,000 each for six research or creative projects focused on quality of life in the Charlotte region.

The fellowship supports a range of approaches, including:

• Original qualitative, quantitative or mixed-methods research
• Original art or performance
• New and innovative uses of existing data, including administrative data held in the Charlotte Regional Data Trust and publicly available data
• Thought work that develops theory or synthesizes research and thinking at new intersections and could lead to research, a book or art/performance

Fellows join a growing group of UNC Charlotte faculty contributing research and creative work to a deeper understanding of the region and its most pressing challenges.

Important fellowship details:

• Application deadline: 5 p.m. Friday, October 9, 2026
• Project length: Up to 18 months
• Eligibility: Full-time UNC Charlotte faculty with the title of assistant professor or higher whose job description includes professional expectations for research
• Award notification: December 7, 2026
• Grant period begins: January 15, 2027

Open access publishing typically comes with a cost, known as article processing charges (APCs). These charges are often thousands of dollars.

To help cover the cost of these fees, Atkins Library has negotiated publishing waivers for APCs with publishers like Elsevier, Springer Nature, Wiley, and more. Are you looking to get involved on campus and develop your leadership skills? The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi’s UNC Charlotte Chapter is looking to fill the following board positions. 

Secretary: Take minutes during executive board meetings, maintain chapter records, ensure organization of chapter Google Drive.

President-Elect: Work closely with the chapter leadership to support chapter operations and prepare to lead as Chapter President, including helping plan events, managing member engagement, and supporting the invitation and initiation processes. As Chapter President in 2027-28, they will lead board meetings, guide the chapter’s strategic direction, serve as the primary liaison to Phi Kappa Phi National, and represent the chapter at key events. 

Each position requires attendance of one virtual board meeting per month and occasional chapter events. Anyone willing to take on one of these positions will have their first year Phi Kappa Phi membership fees fully waived by the chapter.
