The 2023-2024 schedule of Faculty Council and Faculty Executive Committee (FEC) meetings is available on the Faculty Governance website. The first FEC meeting will be held Thursday, September 7 at 1:00 PM. The first Faculty Council meeting will be held Thursday, September 28 at 1:00 PM. The deadline for placing items on the agenda is approximately one week prior to the meeting date. Since most items must also go through one of our faculty governance committees for their review and recommendations, the entire review cycle should be considered in meeting your organization’s needs.

The 2023 New Student Convocation for incoming first-year and transfer students will take place on Sunday, August 20 in the Barnhardt Student Activity Center at 2:00 p.m. Faculty are invited to participate in this tradition that celebrates the beginning of our new Niners academic journey. Please RSVP for the event as soon as possible. The registration form will close on August 17. Faculty are encouraged to wear regalia for the event.

The SoTL Call for Grant Proposals is open. This year, the SoTL Grants Program offers faculty funding for research on teaching and learning focused on High Impact Practices and Curricular Innovation, and Educational Technology Innovation. Proposals are due by 11:59 p.m. on October 1. Read below to learn how you can receive targeted support for getting your SoTL research funded.

SoTL Grant Proposal Writing Course
Enroll in this week-long course to receive targeted guidance for developing a fundable SoTL research proposal! This hybrid course, facilitated by Faculty Fellow Dr. Kim Buch, offers a scaffolded experience for designing and proposing a fundable SoTL research project that fits the goals and requirements of the new SoTL RFP. Optional writing feedback and consultations are offered throughout.

Drastic Dykes and Accidental Activists: Queer Women in the Urban South – An Author Talk with La Shonda Mims
La Shonda Mims is an Associate Professor of History at Middle Tennessee State University. Concerned with the intersections of gender, race, region, and queer identity, her book, Drastic Dykes and Accidental Activists, published by the University of North Carolina Press, examines lesbian life in Atlanta, Georgia, and Charlotte, North Carolina. Her 2019 article published in the Journal of Women’s History, “Drastic Dykes:The New South and Lesbian Life,” explored lesbian-feminist action in the urban New South. Co-sponsored by J.
