Emergency Relief Fund Providing Direct Student Aid

UNC Charlotte has been granted $727,808 from the Governors Emergency Education Relief Fund (GEER), which is a program of the Education Stabilization Fund created by the CARES Act and administered by the U.S. Department of Education. The funds will be used entirely for student aid to help current students be able to continue their education this semester.

This direct student aid will be provided to undergraduate and graduate students who are N.C. residents, who are currently enrolled in a degree-granting program, who are in good academic standing, and who require financial assistance.

Identified students who have registered for spring semester will be notified by email of their additional aid. Niner Central and Financial Aid staff will contact eligible students who have not yet registered for spring semester to inform them of their financial aid award. Academic advisors will also reach out to offer students assistance with course selection.

UNC Charlotte also expects to receive an allocation from the U.S. Fiscal Year 2021 appropriations that include a COVID-19 supplemental relief measure. Congress set aside approximately $14.25 billion for the Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund (HEERF). This HEERF funding will be allocated to higher education institutions based on a formula that includes the number of Pell-eligible students. The funds may be used to provide financial aid and emergency funds to students as well as to defray institutional expenses associated with the COVID-19 pandemic. UNC Charlotte expects to award additional aid once these funds are made available to institutions.
